When I built these I had been thinking about culture. The culture I come from and the one I'm immersed in now. I'm a Norwegian living only a few miles from the Mexico border. I've always admired the beauty of Mexican culture. I'm not religious but even their deeply catholic art is beautiful. The way they can use every color (the bolder the better), their use of patterns and a simply carefree style of storytelling. I love it, I want to embody that kind of visual excitement. But it got me looking at Norwegian Rosemaling and how similar my own cultural art is. Intricate, delicate but also carefree patterns of folk art. These places worlds apart and yet the stories and how they tell them are still the same.
These straps are a combination of tooled leather, chocolate rough out and navy blue Nubuck leather. A beautiful reminder of our adventures, our roots and how they so often find a way of coming together as if by magic.
